Copa Americana

Well, it has been very interesting so far. We have seen some big teams going down hard leaving the second matches wide open for some very interesting upsets. The Big story in my opinion is Brazil falling hard to a down but not out Mexico team. After the upsetting loss to the United States in the Gold Cup, Mexico bounced back in a big way. Though without stars Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, and Kaka(all three excused from tournament to rest from recent matches) Brazil seemed to be always on the attack and a inch away from the back of the net. Though the two early goals scored by Mexico's Castillo and Morales it was their defense that pulled out the win. The Mexican defense was an impenetrable wall for Robinho and company. While it might look a bit grim for Brazil I feel their offense has what it takes to get them to the next round, but their defense and goal keeping will need to step up.

As for the Donovan-less US team they just might have an uphill battle if they want to make it past the first round. They where handed a very hard loss by the power house Argentina team. I feel that the Argentina team has all the components for a championship team and will walk away with the title in this competition. The question for me is whether the US will win a game? Will home field advantage help the struggling Venezuela team advance? Will the sleeping giant awaken in Brazil? Can a rather unexpected Mexico team shock the world and keep winning?

We will be watching with much anticipation so if you really want to follow the games stay tuned and I will try and keep you even more up to date on the copa americana. Please leave me constructive criticism on how I can make this blog a better source for all things futbol.
